The IB Primary Years Programme
In December 2009 LIS underwent a highly successful PYP evaluation visit.
A team, for Europe, Middle East and Africa, was sent to Luanda to compare our programme against the International Baccalaureate’s Programme Standards. The final visit report was very complimentary and included the statement that LIS had met all the standards, a very rare occurrence.

- The teachers for making use of appropriate IB documentation in their planning activities.

- Teachers for providing frequent opportunities for student peer- and self- assessment.
- Teachers for providing students with regular and prompt feedback to improve their learning.
The Student
- The school for giving voice to the students through the creation of a primary student council.
- The student council for modelling self-initiated action.
- The teachers for ensuring that the element of action drives the exhibition.
- The teachers for thoroughly planning the exhibition, with active student involvement, well in advance, and for keeping records of the process.
- The teachers and students for sharing the exhibition with members of the school community through a range of media.
- The school for creating a climate in which the exhibition is valued by all members of the community.
IB Middle Years Programme
In April 2010 LIS underwent a highly successful MYP re-evaluation visit.
A team was sent to Luanda to compare our programme against the International Baccalaureate’s Programme Standards. The final visit report was very complimentary and we continue to be fully authorized.
Commendations
The visiting authorization team commends the:
- The director for his explicit support, insight into and understanding of all aspects of the programme
- The management for increasingly emphasizing the importance of Portuguese, the host country language, within the curriculum.
- The board for its generous financial support and for its understanding of the programme.
- The school management for recognizing the importance of including year 7 in the MYP and for its plans to implement this change in the academic year starting August 2010.
- The board for enabling significant expansion of facilities, specifically the arts and technology building which supports the pedagogy of the programme.
- The management for creating an environment conducive to staff retention.
- The MYP coordinator for her enthusiasm, her vision and her effective monitoring of the development and growth of the programme.
- The management for including time-tabled meetings for teachers to meet in subject specific groups.
- The management for the significant improvement in EAL provision, and the future expansion of the counseling and special needs service ensuring that students of all year groups are optimally supported.
- MYP coordinator and teachers for ensuring that assessment practices are consistent, clear and integral to teaching and planning.
- The personal project coordinator for the implementation and organization of the personal project exhibition and information evening for year 10 students and parents.
IB Diploma Programme
In September 2006 LIS underwent a highly successful IB Diploma evaluation visit.
A team, which included the Regional IB Diploma Manager for Europe, Middle East and Africa, was sent to Luanda to compare our programme against the International Baccalaureate’s Programme Standards. The final visit report was very complimentary and full authorization was granted.
