As a CAS project, several Year 12 and 13 students have been making weekly trips to a local girls’ orphanage named Santa Bakita. For the Christmas season, we were given the opportunity to organize a Christmas party and give presents to all the children at the orphanage. In order to gather all of the items and funds we needed, we organized an item drive and a bake sale/free dress day for the students in MYP and DP. Students paid 100 kz each for bake sale goodies and the privilege of wearing free dress during the school day. Each year group was assigned to a particular item that we wanted to include in the gift boxes (notebooks, crayons, etc.) and the goal was to gather their quota of items during one week. Both activities were a success; we managed to raise 461 USD and collect enough items to fill approximately 53 boxes (one for each of the girls at the orphanage).
On Monday the 24 November, all of the students involved in the project, Mr. Rancic, and our supervisors, Ms. Nicel and Ms Regula held the Christmas party at the orphanage during the afternoon. Each of the girls received a present, and the squeals of glee and laughter were enough to assure us that the effort put into this project was definitely worth it! Everyone gave a little and the result was a lot of happiness and fun for the Santa Bakita girls.
