Secondary School students at LIS had an opportunity to experience democracy in action on Friday September 11th. This followed an engaging “Town Hall Meeting” on Wednesday September 9th, when students listened to candidates speak and asked questions about what candidates for Student Council officer positions could offer if elected. 152 students were eligible to vote for President, Vice President and Treasurer of the SC. As there were four candidates for President and three for Vice President, these races were decided by preference voting. The following were elected:

• President: Haley Talbot (Year 11.2)
• Vice President: Taran Naidoo (Year 12)
• Treasurer: Maren Reedy (Year 10.1)
• Secretary: Rui Seguro (Year 12) (elected unopposed).

All officers and the ten homeroom representatives of the Student Council have been elected to serve for the remainder of the 2009-10 school year. We look forward to great things from this year’s Student Council!
