As we entered this past December break, it truly was a season of giving for our outstanding Year 9 Design students! Building on last year's inaugural edition, this year the Y9 Design Craft Fair became a Holiday Craft Fair, held in the second week of December, and for this year's students, it was all about making a real difference. These Y9 Design students researched, designed, and then handcrafted high-quality wooden handicrafts, surpassing even the wonderful quality of last year's designs.

These thoughtful creations were a sell-out hit with the LIS parent and student community, and the Y9 Design Community Holiday Craft Fair raised 1.25 million Angolan kwanzas! Based on presentations from the Y10 students about the five Service as Action organizations they are working with, the Y9 Design students voted to donate the generous proceeds to Population Service International (PSI) Angola to assist them in the many services they provide, particularly in malaria treatment and prevention. Thank you to all the LIS parents, students, and teachers who supported the Holiday Craft Fair!

Congratulations, Year 9 Design students—you have not only honed your design skills but also demonstrated the power of empathy, generosity, and design thinking in action.
