Book Week
To hear teachers, parents and students encouraging both reading and writing through an imaginative array of activities was a pleasure. The readings were carried out mostly in English but we also had contributions in Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese, Xhosa, Norwegian and Maori. As useful as the internet is, it is still somehow very comforting to see children curled up with their own book or listening in rapt attention to the enthusiastic rendition of a good story. The event culminated in students and some staff dressing up as favourite characters from their own reading. So on Friday we had, among many others, Captain Underpants, Cinderella, Captain Jack Sparrow, Nancy Drew, lots of Harry Potters, Gandalf, Robin Hood and Ronaldhino (how did he get there?) wandering around the campus.
